Mission Statement

Outer Voices is a multi-media project dedicated to listening to, learning from, and sharing with others the seldom-heard voices of grassroots women activists from throughout the Pacific Islands and the Asian Pacific Rim.

We do this because we know that women who work in their own regions, on behalf of their own communities, can effect lasting, non-violent social change. We know that the media can be a tool for getting their stories heard.

Once heard, these stories can provide replicable models for social change in other communities around the world. Outer Voices provides media access to these women and their communities, with the goal of fostering a constructive dialogue among activists and organizations worldwide and in the United States.

We don’t impose outside solutions on any individual or group. Instead, we serve as a unique hub for information and communication.

Outer Voices is a multimedia documentary project. Through radio and the internet we will expose the innovative grassroots activism pioneered by women of the Pacific Islands and the Asian Pacific Rim, whose impassioned work is inspired by the needs of their families, their communities, and their cultural self-respect.

Outer Voices is a chance to listen to the stories of women who are working to bring about systemic change in their own communities, often in response to the destabilization that the move towards modernity has wrought on their economic, social and cultural infrastructures. Because of their geographic and cultural isolation, they have found solutions to problems that might otherwise be seen as insurmountable.

Outer Voices is creating access to information that will move people into action. Devoted to nonviolent social change within their own communities, Outer Voices are voices of women that are outside the mainstream.
Now more than ever their voices for peace need to be heard.

Outer Voices is the opportunity to turn the tables of information.
